13b work for Ms Hamnett Tuesday P1 (no lesson)

Dear Y13
In addition to the list of work on the earlier blog post, work for Tuesday P1 is as follows
Research an experimental method of finding the specific charge on the electron.  This needs to have a diagram, an explanation and full details of the calculations that would need to be done.  Come on Friday ready to explain this method to the rest of the class.
Thanks and see you Friday
Ms Hamnett

Graviational waves discovered with an interferometer!

Einstein's gravitational waves 'seen' from black holes
For the first time, scientists have detected tiny, rhythmic distortions in space and time - gravitational waves - predicted by Einstein 100 years ago.

Homework and EMPA notice

Dear Year 13
Half term homework -

1. Finish the two question sheets linked below (we have already started one of them) - answers are provided

time dilation and length contraction for muons

time dilation for muons

2. Finish the exam questions I gave out last lesson (answers are in the back, check and mark as you go along)

3. If you haven't already done so, please write a calculation question on special relativity for next lesson.

4. In preparation for the EMPA after Easter (we have decided to delay it in case you read the first version of this message), please answer questions 19.1 - 19.9 P216-217 of Practice in Physics book.

Happy half term!
